Harry Herbert Hancock (1877 - 1925)

Harry worked for his father in the Shoemakers shop and later took over the business from his father. Harry married Annie Green aged 27, on the 16th April 1906. Annie, who also worked in the shop as a shoe machinist, is shown as a boarder at the premises in the 1901 census. They had only one child, Herbert Sowton. Sowton was the surname of Frederick, a favourite uncle of Annie’s family.
Harry died at the early age of 47 on the 17th of January 1925 from Pulmonary Tuberculosis and buried on the 21st at Welford Road Cemetary, Leicester.

Harry outside his shop at 104 Curzon Street. Notice the difference between this picture and the similar picture of his father. Fewer, larger panes of glass in the window and the pavement has been relaid with paving slabs. Some lettering is missing from the wording on the windows showing that the alterations had been made for some time.
